What is an Enrolled Agent?
An EA is a federally licensed tax professional that is authorized to
represent taxpayers before the IRS. Only EAs, attorneys and CPAs may
represent taxpayers before the IRS.
What is Required to Become an Enrolled Agent?
There is no educational requirement to become an EA. A person wishing
to become an EA must pass the three-part IRS Special Enrollment
Examination (SEE). The SEE is a computer based exam administered
by Thomson Prometric at their testing centers throughout the US.
The 2008 SEE testing window starts May 1, 2008 and runs through
February 28th, 2009. Candidates can take one part of the
exam at a time over the 10 month testing period. To register for
the exam, visit Thompson Prometric's website at www.prometric.com/irs.
How Much Tax Experience Do You Need to Pass this Exam?
Very little! People with little tax experience often do better on the
exam because they spend more time studying our materials. The E.A. Exam
does not test your ability to complete a tax return.
CPE Credits
Each of the four parts of this course is approved by the California Tax
Education Council for 16 federal hours of continuing education. (CTEC
1082-CE-0001-4).
